Our new organization wants to
We announced in our last newsletter that Meriaura is
undergoing a phase of strong growth, expanding both its fleet and trading area.
We have strengthened our customer service team accordingly with two new
ship-operators, Henna-Mari and Maria, who joined our team in January. We are
committed to providing top class service throughout the process starting from
the very first contact, providing regular updates before and during the voyage,
and ending with the paperwork.
Furthermore, we have made new arrangements for
ensuring best possible customer service. For every contract customer we have
appointed a responsible chartering manager. Each chartering manager forms a
team together with a ship operator, the idea being that these people work
closely together ensuring the optimal performance for every single voyage. In
practice this means that in dry bulk chartering we have three teams that are
responsible for their designated fleet of vessels more or less the same
size. Needless to say the teams are
working very closely together to optimize traffic and customer service. I myself, as the new Vice Managing Director of
Meriaura, am coaching the teams, and in charge of all operations.
Our project sales team
is organized similarly – the people in charge taking care of the entire process
from sales to execution. Our technical
department, forming an important part of our customer service, assists with planning and
documentation whenever necessary. See our whole team and contact details.
On bealf of the whole team I would like to wish You Happy Easter!
Vice Managing Director
ordered 2 newbuildings
Meriaura Group is
strengthening its position at shipping market by expanding and regenerating its
fleet. Meriaura signed a contract with Dutch
shipyard Royal Bodewes for building two 4700DWT VG EcoCoasterTM
general cargo vessels. The delivery of the first vessel is due at the end of
July, 2016 and the second will follow three months later. Building of the hulls
of the vessels started in March 2015 in Szczecin, Poland.
is designed to cause considerably less environmental impact than conventional
dry cargo vessels. The hull and machinery of the newbuildings are optimized to
the speed of 10,5 knots in open water conditions. Power required for Ice Class
1A is achieved by a diesel electric driven booster unit. The aim is to almost
halve the fuel consumption compared to conventional dry cargo vessels of
similar type and size, and thereby also cut emissions remarkably. The vessels
will be equipped with a dual fuel system, main engine ABC 8DZC being suitable
for biofuel and MGO. Biofuel for the vessels is produced in VG-Shipping’s (part
of Meriaura group) own refinery located in Uusikaupunki.
The regeneration of the
Meriaura fleet aims to lower fuel consumption and GHG emissions. “Our goal is
that in five years’ time at least 50% of our fleet consists of fuel efficient
and low emission EcoCoasters that are run by recycled oil -based biofuel. Designing
of a larger EcoCoaster is under process” says Jussi Mälkiä, President of
shifting to bio-oil in VG-Shipping’s management
VG-Shipping and The Finnish Environment Institute
(SYKE) have renewed their contract for managing the research vessel
Aranda. VG-Shipping won the competitive bidding already for the third time
since 2006. The management includes crewing, operating and
technical management of the vessel.
During spring 2015 VG-Shipping will introduce VG Marine EcoFuelTMto
Aranda. Since January 2015 EcoFuel has already been used for heating in Aranda.
Aranda’s carbon footprint decreases remarkably after shifting to domestic VG
Marine EcoFuel. EcoFuel is processed from food industry side streams and and
recycled vegetable oils at VG-Shipping’s own refinery in Uusikaupunki.
Development Manager Juha “Roope” Flinkman from SYKE is satisfied with the ten-year
cooperation with VG-Shipping. “VG-Shipping’s management has been very
cost-effective. Shifting to bio oil is a remarkable advantage for environment
and climate and for our image as well. This would have not been possible
without such an innovative partner as VG-Shipping and Meriaura Group.” he says.
